Now as you may know, my friends and I do not exactly live the "typical" college student life, i.e. partying at a kegger on the weekend. We are much more likely to stay in our room and watch The Muppet Show on DVD. But this Friday, we decided to celebrate Elizabeth's birthday and our first weekend back. The night began at the Mediterranean Grill. We brought two bottles of wine and a large group of girls, which I'm sure the other people at this quite classy restaurant really appreciated. Then we headed to Haverford, where Amy Sedaris was performing. It was in the form of an interview, unfortunately by two supposedly hilarious Haverford students, which we all know equals awkward. Luckily Amy Sedaris is funny enough to be hilarious despite the unfunny situation they put her in, so that was fairly enjoyable. She made fun of Quakers a lot.
Then we headed out to the bars. First we went to the new bar, "Tip O'Leary's." Now, since we couldn't remember the name of it, we tend to call it whatever Irish pub name comes to mind, including Peter O'Toole's and McSquirrely's. Tip's was a bit boring, we were the only ones there really, besides some creepy old men. So we headed to Roaches, the cheaper Main Line bar. Alcohol was consumed, banter got louder and more inappropriate, and then we moved on to Erin's, the usual pub. It was pretty crowded, a bit of a sausage fest, and mostly the usual Villanova kids. This is where we met a man who spoke in a fake British accent, had long scraggly blonde hair and mutton chops, and was wearing a Jimmy Buffet t-shirt. He, we discovered, was the infamous Mendel Doug, who is a Villanova celebrity. He has apparently gone to school there for 6-8 years, and always carries a light saber with him. Ari had to ask him about it, of course, and so he stabbed Nicky with his light saber.
Next I harassed a hipster type with a plaid shirt, asking him if he was a lumberjack. Luckily he had a good sense of humor, and we all chatted for a while. Headed home soon after. All in all a successful night.
Other than that, I should report that my phone is currently lost, so if anyone tries to call me, please let me know who answers, and tell them to give me my phone back.
