So I did that facebook note, and then of course afterward I thought of way more interesting things I should have put. So now I'm making 25 more things, for several reasons: I am incapable of doing anything productive with my life, I cannot sleep, I'm self-centered. Here goes:
1. When the windshield wipers were on in the car I would imagine that they were battling each other, fighting back and forth. I also loved when they were in time with the music, or when the turn signal was (SO annoying if they were slightly off-beat).
2. Speaking of my overactive imagination, my main imaginary friend as a small child was named Julie, which I sort of wished was my name. She was a bit older than me, had long blonde hair, and rollerskates.
3. I absolutely love to sing and dance in the car. I judge people who don't, actually.
4. I've always been obsessed with big families. I would always write stories and draw pictures about families with lots of kids (often no parents). In MASH I would say I wanted to have a busload of kids. Now I LOVE Jon and Kate Plus 8.
5. When I was younger I thought I identified better with older people's interests, now I identify more with kids.
6. At the place where I first learned violin, I took French and Chinese classes (around kindergarten and first grade). Later I would take classes on those languages, but for unrelated reasons.
7. I think about Hong Kong every day, and sometimes I miss it so much it hurts. I think of my plane ride home, watching the beautiful skyline and lights on the islands.
8. I really want to learn to be a good photographer and learn about photography.
9. I've been drinking tea as long as I can remember. For my 5th birthday I had a tea party and I actually drank tea, even thought the other girls didn't. I drink gallons upon gallons to this day.
10. My first career goal was to be an artist, and when my mom discouraged that I thought about being an architect. I loved drawing house designs.
11. I've had an obsession with France and French from a young age, which may be due to my love for Madeline (I had my doll with her appendix scar).
12. I started playing the violin when I was 6. I remember my mom asked me earlier if I could play any instrument what would I choose and I lied and said flute but I really wanted violin. I got to choose violin or piano and especially since my brothers both picked piano, I wanted violin (always the rebel).
13. My parents didn't really care if we stayed up late, so I watched a lot of Jay Leno and SNL as a kid. It was awkward during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
14. I didn't watch much TV when I was little but we did watch The Simpsons and Wishbone. I still know a lot of literature from the Wishbone episode.
15. I was the girliest girly girl. I wore bows in my hair, dresses every day, and lacy socks until I was a bit too old.
16. Speaking of that, I collect teacups and dolls. Both since I was born pretty much.
17. Maybe it's because I'm a Libra but I want to learn and submerse myself in all kinds of different perspectives. I want to live many different places- definitely want to live in the South at some point, and I'd really like to live in Alaska.
18. I've had boys' names for my future children picked out for a while, and it seems a lot easier for me to have those than girls. For the boys I have Kevin after my dad and friend and Gareth and Liam after book characters. The only girl's name I love is Harper, which will be my first daughter.
19. I won the school spelling bee in 6th grade and made it up to regionals, but lost on the word malodorous. Which is a stupid word anyways.
20. My family used to go to Coronado every July for the month. My family went for a government conference and realized it would cost the same to stay for a month at an apartment as it cost to stay for a week at our hotel. Our idea of vacation was relaxing at the beach, reading a book a day, and just walking around in the perfect weather.
21. I had a pen pal through American Girls from Texas. We would have our dolls write to each other. We're now friends on facebook but we've never met.
22. I have not one but two Jane Austen action figures (both gifts).
23. Speaking of Jane Austen, my mom and I first watched the Pride and Prejudice miniseries on TV when it came out and recorded it. We used to watch it on tape every year and I would have to get up and fast forward through the commercials (we didn't have a remote) through 6 hours.
24. One day I cried at dinner because I hated my name so much. I was 4 or so, and I said I wished my name was Rose. I thought Megan was horribly ugly and un-girly.
25. My favorite possession is my violin. It was made in the 1920s in Czechoslovakia.
